Der Vislift kann mit einem Fishcounter ausgestattet werden. Dieser enthält ein Kameramodul, mit dem die Fische nicht nur erfasst werden, sondern mittels automatischer Fischekennung auch ihrer Art zugeordnet werden. Die Aufnahmen sind zudem im Vislift-Kontrollzentrum einsehbar – dadurch wird Fischwanderung nicht nur messbar, sondern auch nachvollziehbar.

Bereits viele Fischarten haben den Vislift genutzt: von großen Fischen wie Karpfen, Wels und Hecht bis hin zu Arten der Roten Liste wie dem Europäischen Aal sowie Exoten wie dem Blaubandbärbling. Dadurch entsteht auch eine automatische Erkennung von Rote-Liste-Arten und Exoten.
