Update Pumping Station De Pannerling – Record Height Fish Passage

Sep 1, 2025
Vislift
At the newly commissioned De Pannerling Pumping Station, the Vislift shows what fish migration can deliver today: in just 90 days, more than 195,000 fish have passed through safely. These higher numbers were to be expected, as the series of downstream Vislifts on the Linge has already shown large volumes of fish movements. With this, the Vislift UP—designed specifically for pumping stations—delivers high-level fish passage, and the results confirm the strong ecological boost for the connected water system.
What we’re seeing
The highest fish-passage in the Netherlands
> 195,000 safe passages in the first 90 days.
26 different fish species recorded.
5 Red List species detected.
These figures underline that migrating fish find and use Vislifts quickly. The wide range of species—including vulnerable Red List species—shows that the Vislift supports not only numbers, but also biodiversity.
Why this matters
The results at De Pannerling show that a compact, adaptive fish-migration solution can deliver major ecological gains without interfering with pumping operations. Migratory fish regain access to crucial habitats for spawning, rearing and overwintering, while water management remains safe and efficient.
Moving forward together
We will continue to monitor performance and share insights with our partners. This enables us to keep optimising the Vislift based on data, further increase impact, and adapt as climate change advances.
